The Crying Princess, 78rpm Records From Burma

Here is a very interesting Compilation from the amazing Sublime Frequencies Label.  It's rare 78's from Burma.  If you do like it, check out their other Comps with old Burmese music (Princess Nicotine, Guitars from the Golden Triangle, etc).  The video below isn't the best, but it'll give you a sample of this unique music.

Fantastic Phil Spector Interview 1969

Phil Spector did a lot of GREAT work.  Here is an amazing interview with the man from Rolling Stone in 1969.  There is tons of cool stuff including talk of the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Motown, the music business.  Check it out HERE.

Noel Gallagher at the Brit Awards

I wouldn't have ever expected to post Noel Gallagher quotes here, but this is too perfect.  It's actually a pretty real and accurate critique if you ask me...

This was last week sometime, talking about the Brits, UK music awards.

"There are no characters left in the music business. When we first started going there was a healthy percentage of people, and we were all dirt-kickers from council estates, and we all couldn’t believe our luck that we were at the Brits. You go in now and everybody is a careerist. It’s very corporate, and you know what I’ve actually seen people doing at the Brits? Eating. I saw the drummer from Muse smoking an electronic cigarette. A cigarette with a battery in. I had to say to him: ‘Really? Really? Is that where you are at? Do me a favour mate, either have a proper one outside, or don’t have one.’ It lit up green when he had a drag of it. Nonsense. He said that immortal line – ‘Oh you know how it is mate’. And I said ‘I’m sorry mate, I actually don’t.’

Gallagher continued his outspoken views on the ceremony, calling the night "instantly forgettable" and rallying against young people who wear hats. "It was an instantly forgettable night," said Gallagher. "There was nothing going on at the Brits, there was nothing going on at the aftershow parties. There seemed to be a lot of young people in hats, with iPhones. They’re either all involved in some massive video game that they’re all hooked up to, or they’re just texting each other saying ‘Where are you, what are you doing?’ And they’ve all got hats. Where did the hat come from? We’re going back to some Dickensian nightmare. I don’t understand it. People with hats and Blackberrys under the age of 30 should be shot. Or stoned to death."

Happy Birthday Townes : Rare Footage

Today would have been Townes Van Zandt's 69th Birthday.  In honor of him, here's some rare footage of him playing in a Sound Studio in Austin, TX.  From about the early 90's.

Rare 20's Blues Gospel : Arizona Dranes

Here are a couple performances by Arizona Dranes (1889-1963).  She was a blind Pianist/Singer, one of the first gospel singers to bring the style of the Holiness Churches to the public.  Her original 78's sometimes pop up, or you can get all her music via Document Records.

Alan Lomax Interview, 1991

Here is Part 1 of a 4 part interview with the great Alan Lomax.  He helped bring a lot of amazing music into the light, and his enthusiasm for that music is contagious.  A very important man indeed.  Includes discussion about Field Recordings, Woody Guthrie, loss of culture in the modern world, etc.
